Nigeria’s Minister Of Interior Charges Federal Fire Service To Scale Up Fire Safety Orientation Campaign Nationwide

‎SULEJA – Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed the Federal Fire Service to scale up fire safety orientation and awareness campaigns nationwide to reduce fire incidents and enhance community resilience.

‎Dr. Tunji Ojo gave the directive at the just concluded Mid-Tenure 2025 Sectoral Performance Retreat of the Ministry of Interior, held between 27th–30th August 2025 at Zuma Resort, Suleja, Niger State.

‎Addressing the Federal Fire Service at the retreat, Dr. Tunji-Ojo charged the Service to build capacity as a custodian of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), to strengthen Nigeria’s first responder system.

‎The Interior Minister also tasked the Federal Fire Service to liberalize the fire sector by opening avenues for private sector participation under proper regulation, making it more vibrant, sustainable, and responsive.

‎Furthermore, he challenged the Federal Fire Service to modernize its operations and upgrade its standards to enable it compete with advanced fire services across the world, thereby positioning Nigeria at par with global best practices.

‎Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the Service must evolve into a major employer of labour and a driver of national development, with its performance judged by the number of lives and assets saved.

‎He also urged all agencies to approach public service with integrity, loyalty, and character, noting that these values remain the foundation of effective leadership and institutional growth.

‎The Minister however reiterated his vision of building strong, sustainable institutions within the Ministry of Interior that will perform excellently beyond individual leadership, in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎At the end of the retreat, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, joined other heads of agencies under Federal Ministry of Interior in signing the 2025 Performance Contracts, pledged the Service’s commitment to deliver on set targets.

‎The theme of the retreat was “From Plans to Results: Strengthening Institutional Performance in the Ministry of Interior”.
