Kwara South District Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, has warned against inflammatory remarks or actions capable of undermining the coordinated security operations presently underway in the area.
Elder Oyin-Zubair who gave the warning in a statement released to Newsmonger on Thursday, decries the tendency of some politicians to turn the unfortunate security incidents into tools for political tirade, despite the suffering of ordinary citizens.
The Elder statesman strongly condemns the politicization of the insecurity challenges facing the region, particularly Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
“It is unfortunate that while lives are being lost, people maimed, and citizens forced to abandon their ancestral homes, some callous politicians have chosen to trivialize the situation for political gain. Rather than investing energy and resources into finding solutions, they mock and hurl insults at a predicament that is no fault of our people, but an unfortunate twist of destiny,”
According to the statement, many indigenes have been forced, unprepared, to relocate in search of safety and comfort outside their places of birth, thereby losing their livelihoods and heritage.
He laments that instead of showing genuine concern, politicians have resorted to blame games and petty claims of assistance.
The statement particularly hails the synergy between the newly trained Hunters and Vigilante members serving as Forest Guards, the Miyetti Allah Vigilante Squad, and official security operatives, including the Special Forces, Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Nigeria Police, and the Nigerian Army, noting that their combined efforts are already restoring confidence in the region.
He reiterates that the people are solidly behind these operations and will continue to give necessary support until insecurity is finally defeated in the area.
While offering suggestions to permanently uproot the bandits operating in the region, Elder Oyin-Zubair emphasizes that to the surrounding forests in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State and Yagba West in neighboring Kogi State must also be jointly tackled in the ongoing security operations.
