Fire Engulfs Popular Phone Market In Kwara

Popular Challenge phone market in Ilorin, Kwara State was engulfed by fire at the late hour of Wednesday.

Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle made this known to News Monger in a press release on Thursday.

The market is said to comprise over 120 shops, 80 kiosks, and numerous stands.

Adekunle states that Fire Service received a distress call at about some minutes past 9pm reporting a fire outbreak at the Challenge Phone Village, located within Challenge Market, Ilorin.

It was reported that the affected areas were primarily phone stores and repair shops.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.

The spokesperson notes that the fire crew promptly mobilized and arrived the scene to find several shops engulfed in flames, the intervention of the firemen limited its impact to only 10 kiosks.

“Through swift intervention, professionalism, and tactical expertise, our team successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, limiting its impact to only 10 kiosks” Adekunle said.

While nothing that traders and market stakeholders commended the Fire Service for their rapid response and effectiveness in saving the market from widespread destruction, the Director of the Fire Service, Prince Olumuyiwa Falade expressed his sympathy to the market leadership, affected traders, and the entire market community.
