Gov Mbah Declares N80,000 Minimum Wage For Forest Guards
ENUGU – In a bid to strengthen security in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has approved restructuring of the state’s Forest Guard.
This is contained in a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu, and made available to newsmen on Monday.
One of the reforms include raising the guards’ salaries to a minimum of N80,000, in line with the new state minimum wage.
In another development, the governor has also ordered a clampdown on illegal logging, directing the arrest and prosecution of anyone caught felling immature trees or engaging in deforestation.
State Commander of the Forest Guard, Akinbayo Olasoji, disclosed this during stakeholder meetings across the three senatorial zones.
He said the engagements with local government chairmen, traditional rulers, town unions, farmers, hunters, vigilantes, and youth groups aimed to ensure transparency and community participation in recruitment.
Olasoji said applicants must be of proven integrity and endorsed by their traditional rulers and town union leaders. Training for the first batch will begin later this month under the supervision of the National Security Adviser’s office.
