Igbomina Professionals Recommend Solutions To Stem Tide Of Insecurity In Kwara State
Following the rising wave of insecurity threatening villages, families, and communities across Igbomina land and Kwara South, the Igbomina Professionals Association has recommended urgent feasible measures to reduce poverty, unemployment, and moral decadence in order for Kwara South and Nigeria at large to enjoy sustainable peace and development.
This is part of the recommendations contained in a statement signed and made available to Newsmonger by the President of the Association, Barrister Bode Iranloye, Esq. on Monday.
While the Association acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as well as the Chairmen of Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, and Ekiti local government areas alongside security agencies, for the steps taken so far to address security challenges in the region, it notes that more coordinated, sustainable, and community-driven actions are urgently required to stem the tide of insecurity.
The Association describes the trend as a recurring menace undermining peace, agriculture, commerce, and the very fabric of communal life and therefore calls for urgent and collective measures to address the crisis before it escalates further, nothing that insecurity cannot be solved by security agencies alone.
“Lasting peace in Igbomina land requires the joint commitment of government, traditional institutions, religious bodies, media, and citizens working together in sincerity and truth,”
Part of it’s recommendations include:
Strengthening Community Security Structures, Economic Empowerment and Job Creation, Education, Enlightenment, and Value Reorientation.
Others include security intelligence and Technology, collaboration between Security Agencies, Political will and good governance, dialogue and conflict resolutions.
It aslo adds that role of citizens and media should not be undermined and proactive media engagement to inform the public and counter misinformation.
While stressing the importance of establishing a permanent Army base in the affected areas as a matter of urgency, association further urges the government and its relevant agencies to identify displaced persons and provide them with relief materials to complement the support already being offered by their host communities.
